Veg2grow Garden Kits is a program by Building Roots to build awareness for urban farming in Toronto and educate children about growing for their future. We have succeeded in providing 200 free vegetable grow kits for children in 2020 that will sprout a Toronto coronavirus solution that tackles both city food security and keeping kids occupied.
If you can, please donate to Building Roots to spread the joy of urban gardening and to help them have a great growing year! Their charitable foundation, Growing Neighbourhoods Foundation, provides tax receipts for all donations.
For every $5 donated, you can buy someone a fresh fruit or vegetable basket. For every $15 donated, you cover the cost of a Veg2grow Garden Kit. Please select the donate button below.
We have completed our program for 2020 and look forward to bringing it back in Spring 2021! Continue reading for full details on the Veg2grow Garden Kits.
The Garden Kits contain the basics needed for a child to start their own vegetable garden. Each kit will have:
For best results, you would need a sunny yard and/or balcony to put the plants once they need further space to grow. You could also donate them to your local community garden or to a friend.
We will also keep in touch with you as you grow your plants and offer some growing tips and advice.
This is a start to growing close to 5,000 seedlings in Toronto for urban gardens!
We will have Community Ambassadors for each of the communities where the Veg2grow Garden Kits will be available. As soon as we have the teams up and running, we will be able to provide curbside pickup for your kits.
Please Register below as the first step.
Please see our Contact your Community Ambassador for more details.
We have also included our COVID-19 Safety Measures.
Registration is now closed for Spring 2020! Thank you to all the program participants for picking up your kits.
If you are interested in receiving a Veg2grow Garden Kit for your family, please register below. Due to availabilities being limited, they will only be offered in Riverdale/Leslieville, Cabbagetown, Moss Park, Corktown and Regent Park. They will be offered on a first come first serve basis. We will get back to you to confirm that you will be receiving a kit.
Your part will be to look after the seedlings and make sure that they are re-planted to harvest.
